Getting your wedding photos is probably one of the most exciting moments since your actual wedding day. Because of this, you may be tempted to just whip out your phone and view them right then and there. But is that the best option? Are there any things to consider when you’re thinking about how to view wedding photos?
Well, as it turns out, there are definitely some settings that can affect how you actually see your wedding photos and make the photos that your photographer spent so much time editing look different on your end than they do on theirs.
So, as a photographer who wants to make sure you see your wedding photos in all of their glory and exactly how your photographer intended them to be seen, here are some of my top tips for how to view wedding photos.
Check Your Device Settings
I know this may seem a bit extra, but your device settings can significantly impact how you see your photos. Over the course of editing your images, there are so many small color tweaks and edits that are made that can be completely ruined (or overlooked) with specific settings.
To ensure you are able to view them in the best light possible, here are some things you want to pay attention to.
Apple Products
Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs, will have a color setting called “true tone.” If this is switched on, it can absolutely affect the coloring of the photos and make them look completely different from what the actual edited photo looks like.
If you use this in your everyday life, I’m not saying you have to turn it off forever. But please take a minute to switch it off before you actually look at your wedding photos. This truly is going to make a big difference, and we want you to see the photos exactly as we intended.
For Mac laptop/computer, this setting is going to be in your system settings under the “Display” option. If you are looking on your iPhone or iPad, you’ll find this setting under “Display & Brightness)
Androids
If you are using an Android phone to view your images, there is a similar setting called “vivid.” This is going to effectively do the same thing that the “true tone” setting does on Apple products. So, again, you want to make sure that this is switched off, at least while you are viewing your images.
Now, all Android devices are going to be a little bit different, but you should see some “Display” options in your settings and should find this vivid option listed somewhere in there.
How to View Wedding Photos
So, now that we have the settings sorted out on the devices let’s talk about how to view wedding photos themselves. Believe me, I get it. You just got the email that your photos are ready, and you want to drop everything and grab the first device you see to look at the photos.
But, if I can give you one piece of advice, it would be to view your photos for the first time on a larger screen. Whether this is a laptop or even an external monitor you have – some people even put it up on their TVs.
Whatever you choose to do, viewing them for the first time on a bigger screen is just going to make the experience that much better. There are a few reasons for this.
First, you’ll actually be able to appreciate the entire image as a whole instead of just the main focus of the image. There are so many small details that are captured in each and every photo, and sometimes, they are just harder to see on a small device.
Whether it’s the faces of your guests laughing in the background on the dance floor or your loved ones tearing up at your first dance, these are special moments that you won’t want to miss out on.
Second, it will also help encourage you to slow down a bit and actually go through each of the photos. When we are on our phones, it can be really easy to quickly swipe or scroll through a ton of photos.
But you want to take time to really appreciate the entire gallery and reminisce about all of these special moments. Sometimes, just taking some time to sit down at your computer can help you slow down and really look at every photo that was taken.
Give Yourself Plenty of Time to Look Through the Gallery
These are the photos of one of the most special days of your lives, so I promise you, you’ll want to sit down and look at them for a while. If you can, try not to look at your gallery when you are in a big time crunch or only have a couple of minutes.
Especially for the first time, you want to be able to sit down and really take in the gallery as a whole. After all, your photographer picked these photos for a reason, and they truly retell the story of that day.
So, maybe plan a whole evening around looking at the photos. This can be just you and your partner or maybe you invite a few of your closest friends and family to view them with you. Whoever you decide to view them with, take a while, sit back, and let the memories come flooding in.
You can even set up a little date night with some snacks and drinks to really make this time special for you and your partner. This can be really nice, especially if life post-wedding has been coming at you fast and you haven’t had time to sit down and be alone together doing something just for yourself!
I Hope This Has Helped You Learn The Best Ways to View Your Wedding Photos!
Hopefully, these tips and settings will help ensure that you not only view the photos exactly as your photographer intended but you’re also able to really enjoy these photos and memories.
So many things in your lives are going to feel like they are over in the blink of an eye, so take some time, be intentional about this, and give yourselves the space to take in all of the love and joy that was your wedding day.
